The Sofia City Art Gallery has also been involved in successful volunteer initiatives through the years. Within one of them, the gallery offers summer internship opportunities to Bulgarian and foreign students at universities and colleges providing training in art history and contemporary visual arts and digital technologies. Interns participate in the process of cataloguing and digitalization of the gallery collection, as well as in the preparation of upcoming exhibitions.

The SCAG team also relies on volunteers in the process of preparation of the gallery’s own research projects, selecting suitable experts on a case-by-case basis from a pool of young researchers, art historians, and graduate students from the National Academy of Arts, Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, and New Bulgarian University.

The number of volunteers at the Sofia City Art Gallery has increased significantly through the years, pointing at a positive sustainable trend.
